Cabinet approves ten-year plan for Debrecen

The cabinet – in a first among large cities – has approved a development concept planned until 2030 for Debrecen, aimed at making the city the centre of eastern Hungary, Innovation and Technology Minister László Palkovics announced yesterday.

Speaking at the local Kölcsey Centre, he said the five pillars of the Debrecen 2030 programme valued at about Ft 600 billion are the economy, transport, education, culture and urban development.

Palkovics called Debrecen one of the chief cities of the nation, but added that the development policy makes no essential distinction between small and large municipalities.

He highlighted the expansion of Debrecen’s international airport, the continued construction of a ring-road bypassing the city and the relocation of the Museum of Natural Sciences to Debrecen.
