Complete collapse in tourism

The number of guest nights at commercial accommodations was down 97% year-on-year to 69,000 in April, due to the lockdown during the height of the pandemic.

Data released by the Central Statistics Office on Friday show that the number of guest nights spent by foreign visitors plummeted by 98.7% to 17,000, while the number spent by domestic travellers declined 95% to 52,000.

Smaller hotels registered an 81% decline and nearly half of overnight stays were recorded there.

Revenue of commercial accommodation fell by 97.3% to Ft 1 billion during April.

Over the first four months, guest nights were down 43.2% year-on-year to 4.2 million. Guest nights spent by Hungarians and foreigners were split equally at around 2.1 million each.

Revenue of commercial accommodations fell 38.5% to Ft 83 billion.
