MÁV announces reduced services

State passenger railway company MÁV yesterday announced a new “epidemic” timetable for some lines valid from June 6 for an indefinite temporary period.

This reflects the large drop in passenger numbers due to the epidemic, the company said.

MÁV estimates that the new schedule affects 4% of passengers.

The number of passengers on domestic lines fell by 70% between March 15 and May 15, while international traffic was close to zero, MÁV reports.

On lines where the average number of passengers was below 10 – including 11 lines where the maximum was two – replacement buses will run.
