Restrictions eased on travel to Austria

Hungarians can freely travel to Austria and return to Hungary if they have tested negative for the Covid-19 virus, it was announced at Thursday’s emergency task force press conference.

A government decree published in official gazette Magyar Közlöny states that Hungarian and Austrian citizens can enter Hungary freely from Friday if they hold a negative coronavirus test not older than four days.

The decree states that if an Austrian or Hungarian citizen entering from Austria notices any symptoms of the infection within 14 days of entry, he or she must stay at their home, residence or accommodation, and is obliged to notify the authority in charge of the pandemic immediately by telephone.

The same applies to persons from the European Economic Area with permanent residency in Hungary. The regulation does not apply to freight traffic border crossings.
