Hospital workers premium reduced

The hourly pay for employees dealing with coronavirus patients has been reduced from 180% of normal rates to 150% at the St. János Hospital in Budapest from May 1, Index reports.

The hospital has been providing an extra benefit with the 180% hourly rate for those working in high-risk areas from the first day of the coronavirus epidemic.

As the hospital is one of the largest centres of Covid-19 treatment, with 140-150 inpatients, the measure affected a large number of employees, the management told Index.

As the epidemic subsides and the number of infected people decreases, the burden on those working in emergency wards is now significantly lower, so the extra high hourly wage has now changed to a high wage of 150%, “which is still among the highest,” the hospital administrators said.
