Police investigate MKIK & BKIK property purchases

Budapest police are investigating suspected misuse of funds in connection with property purchases by the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKIK) and its Budapest branch (BKIK), HVG reported.
Proceedings have been launched, but no one has been questioned so far.
The investigation concerns three property acquisitions worth a combined Ft 9.2 billion. The MKIK paid Ft 4.2 billion for a 5,300m2 headquarters at Pethényi köz in the 12th District. It also purchased an 8,200m2 building on Papp Károly utca in the 13th District for €8.5 million, or about Ft 3.3 billion.
The BKIK acquired a further 2,800m2 property in Budapest for €4.5 million, equivalent to approximately Ft 1.7 billion, in January.
All three transactions were approved by Elek Nagy, chairman of both chambers.
Several board members have questioned the deals, particularly because the seller, TP Property, had acquired two of the buildings shortly before reselling them to the chambers.
This company is associated with the brother of former economy minister Márton Nagy, website 24 reported earlier.
