Magyar flies budget airline to EU summit

Prime Minister Péter Magyar departed for the European Council summit in Brussels on a budget flight on Wednesday.

He said EU leaders will discuss strengthening external border protection, the energy crisis and the seven-year EU budget, which is crucial for Hungary’s development.

He was due to meet the other Visegrád Four prime ministers Wednesday.

On Thursday, before the summit, Magyar will attend a meeting of European People’s Party prime ministers and a cohesion policy consultation convened by the Italian prime minister.

On Friday morning, he will hold his first official bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with whom he has appeared on several Fidesz campaign posters in the past two years.

The trip comes shortly after the EU closed its conditionality procedure against Hungary, releasing €4.2 billion and restoring access to Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe networks.
