Euronet fined over misleading ATMs
The Competition Authority (GVH) has fined ATM operator Euronet more than Ft 63 million for misleading consumers about the services available through its machines.
The company admitted the infringement and changed its ATM menus in Hungary and several neighbouring countries after the authority launched proceedings.
The GVH opened its investigation in March 2025 after finding that Euronet’s ATM home screens offered only two options: “cash and balance” and “other”.
The authority concluded that this layout could mislead customers into believing they had to pay for both cash withdrawals and balance inquiries together, even though the services were available separately under the “other” option.
