Gov’t to end tax benefit for athletes

The government will abolish a special tax advantage for professional athletes under the Ekho simplified contribution scheme from 2027, Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced.
The current Ft 500 million annual income ceiling for athletes – effectively, professional football players – will be restored to the standard Ft 60 million limit, bringing them under the same rules as other Ekho users, including journalists, artists and performers.
The government said the change was intended to eliminate what it considers unjustified tax exceptions and ensure equal treatment across professions.
