Orbán’s Davos stay cost Ft 20mn

Accommodation for former prime minister Viktor Orbán’s nine-member delegation during the World Economic Forum in Davos in January cost nearly Ft 20 million, according to data obtained through a public information request by former MP Ákos Hadházy.

The delegation stayed for three nights at Zurich’s five-star Dolder Grand Hotel.

Six members of the delegation were identified alongside Orbán, while two names were redacted.

Orbán stayed in a “Suite Deluxe” room costing nearly Ft 1.5 million per night.

The hotel bill totalled SFr48,530, or more than Ft 20 million based on the January exchange rate.

Expenses ran to nearly Ft 1.8 million for meals at the hotel’s two-Michelin-starred restaurant, around Ft 89,000 for drinks and snacks ordered to rooms, and Ft 125,000 for laundry services.

Hadházy had initially requested the accommodation costs from the Foreign Ministry but received no response, prompting him to take the matter to court.

Following the change of government, the ministry’s legal successor released the requested documents.
