Lakeside development challenged

Environmental groups and residents of Fonyód are calling on the Lake Balaton Development Council to urgently review the permits for a planned condominium on an ecologically sensitive stretch of the lakeshore and consider suspending construction during the review.
Cordia, a company led by Péter Futó, is developing a four-storey, 99-unit apartment complex on the site of a former public beach.
Trees have been felled in recent months and preparatory work has begun, with foundations now being laid on the reclaimed lakeside area.
The call was made jointly by the National Society of Conservationists – Friends of the Earth Hungary, the Clean Air Action Group and local residents.
