Subsidised diesel for motorists and farmers

The government will provide owners of diesel passenger cars with engines of up to 150 horsepower a monthly Ft 5,000 fuel subsidy, Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced.
The measure will cover Ft 20,000 in total through the end of 2026, with the first payment due in October.
It is expected to benefit nearly one million people, most of whom will not need to apply.
Magyar said the subsidy is intended to offset the difference between the former regulated fuel price and current market prices for a typical monthly fill-up, while excluding owners of more powerful, expensive cars.
Portfolio estimates that the scheme will cost about Ft 20 billion.
Farmers will also be able to reclaim 100% of the excise tax included in the price of diesel through the end of the year, up from 90-91% previously. The measure is to cost several billion forints.
