Head of MCC’s Brussels arm resigns
Frank Füredi, head of the Brussels branch of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC), has resigned as there is no money to pay staff members, Politico reports.
Füredi announced his resignation with immediate effect in a letter to the MCC board of directors.
Prime Minister Péter Magyar has described MCC as part of a network operating with state support established to disseminate Fidesz’s political views.
He indicated after his election victory that he would not finance the institutions of MCC.
The Brussels office was founded with support from the Orbán government in 2022.
The Budapest institution had earlier been run by Balázs Orbán, Viktor Orbán’s close ally and former political director.
Balázs Orbán quit his post in June and accused the new government of smashing the organisation which had about 7,000 students and 300 staff members.
