State to take back MCC assets from Monday
The state will take over the operations of the Batthyány Lajos Foundation, the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation and the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) from August 31, Prime Minister Péter Magyar said yesterday.
The three public-interest asset management foundations were told on Thursday that they could no longer operate in their current form. They may continue their activities independently, but without state funding or state-owned assets, Magyar said.
MCC received 10% stakes in each of MOL and Richter free of charge some years ago and more than Ft 130 billion in public funds and numerous state properties in 2020 alone, according to the prime minister.
The Batthyány Lajos Foundation received nearly Ft 66 billion in 2022-26, while the Blue Planet Foundation, led by former president János Áder, received almost Ft 25 billion, with a further Ft 10 billion provided to its associated climate fund.
Blue Planet said yesterday that it will challenge Magyar’s decision in court, 444 reports.
