Doctors would sack institutional chiefs
The Medical Chamber (MOK) acknowledges the positive steps taken so far in the first 100 days of the new government, but at the same time urges the acceleration of the replacement of institutional leaders, in a statement released on Tuesday.
According to the MOK, it will be decided in the coming months whether the long-awaited change of regime in healthcare will take place in both organizational and moral terms.
However, for this to happen, the chamber added, it is not enough to transform financing and structure, but it is necessary to break with the previous management culture in which political will overrode professional considerations and responsibility avoidance dominated instead of problem-solving.
The MOK said a comprehensive assessment of the current state of the healthcare system should be drawn up, which could serve as a starting point for measuring future results.
The organisation said it is waiting for the results of the due diligence studies examining the possible merger of the private and public healthcare sectors, as well as a public timetable for addressing devalued medical salaries.
The MOK also expects a review of controversial points in the healthcare service relationship, such as the command of employees, the granting of leave, and the accounting of on-call time.
