EU sanctions disrupt Mere’s regional operations
EU sanctions appear to be causing difficulties for the European operations of Mere, the Russian discount chain. Its Budapest store, operating as Basket Plus, recently suspended operations, officially citing technical reasons, while financial problems cannot be ruled out.
Several or possibly all of Mere’s stores in Slovakia, Latvia and Lithuania have also closed, according to local reports.
The disruptions may be linked to EU sanctions imposed on Sergei Schneider, one of the owners of the Russian Svetofor group behind Mere.
