Former Varga-Magyar home listed for sale

A house in Balatonhenye formerly jointly owned by Prime Minister Péter Magyar and his ex-wife, former Justice Minister Judit Varga, has been put up for sale for Ft 299 million, according to property listings reviewed by 24.

The couple purchased the house on the north side of Lake Balaton in 2017 with the help of family home purchase subsidy CSOK.

Although the couple received the state support for the property, they lived in Budapest rather than in the house, thus violating a condition of the loan.

The home went to Varga when the couple divorced in 2023. She repaid the Ft 10 million that year.

According to the listing, the house “offers state-of-the-art technology and exceptional comfort” on the inside, while on the outside it “faithfully follows the architectural traditions of the Balaton hills”.

The nearly 2,000 m2 plot includes a 233m2 smart home equipped with remote-controlled heating, cooling, security and solar energy systems.

Magyar briefly planned to run for mayor of Balatonhenye in 2019, before withdrawing his candidacy shortly before the local elections.
