Nestlé to close chocolate factory
Nestlé Hungária will stop production at its Diósgyőr factory by the end of the year due to declining demand for seasonal confectionery products, the company confirmed to state news agency MTI on Friday.
Unions were informed of the decision in early July. The plant, opened in 1964 in a district of Miskolc, produces hollow chocolate figures.
Nestlé said demand for the products had declined in recent years. The factory accounts for less than 3% of Nestlé Hungária’s revenue and around 0.4% of its domestic production volume.
The company has started negotiations on selling the plant and ensuring its future operation. Nestlé said its aim was to preserve as many jobs as possible by transferring the facility to an investor willing to continue confectionery production.
Nestlé’s other Hungarian factories in Szerencs and Bük continue to operate.
