Danube drops to record low at Baja
The Danube reached its lowest water level ever recorded in Baja, a town in southern Hungary, after the river depth was gauged at 26cm at 4 a.m., breaking the previous record.
The water level dropped by a further centimetre later in the day, reaching 25cm.
The previous low was measured on October 27, 2018, when the Danube depth stood at 27cm at the Baja gauge.
A further decline is expected in the coming days before a small flood wave arrives, said environmental engineer Zoltán Goda.
Danube cruise ships that depart from Budapest are unable to keep to their schedules, so tourists are often transported by buses, Blikk reports.
