Decathlon to open new store in Budapest

French sports retailer Decathlon will open its first store in more than ten years in Budapest’s Third District from a Ft 750 million investment.

The 2,000m2 store will open at the site of a Tesco hypermarket with 30 employees. Budapest and its metropolitan area remain a key focus of Decathlon’s development strategy, the company said in a statement.

The new store also fits well into the retailer’s omnichannel model, combining in-store services with online shopping, including product availability, store pickup and expert advice.

Decathlon entered Hungary 21 years ago and now operates 24 stores with 1,400 employees.

The company’s Hungarian operator, Tízpróba Magyarország, booked a Ft 4.6 billion profit on Ft 92.3 billion in revenue last year.
