Upgrade planned for Balaton rail link

Planning has begun for the modernisation of the railway track between Székesfehérvár and Lake Balaton, with the aim of upgrading the line for double-track operation and speeds of up to 160 km/h, Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy announced on Thursday.

The project is expected to increase capacity, improve timetable reliability and, together with related investments, enhance rail access to the north shore of Lake Balaton, he added.

The section linking Szabadbattyán and Lepsény has so far been excluded from EU-funded railway modernisation programmes.
