State news channels briefly off-air
State television news channels were suspended for four hours on Tuesday, during which time the following message appeared on M1, hirado.hu and on M1’s Facebook page:
“The public media cannot lie. We apologise for doing this for years nevertheless. The public media is now transformed in order to become independent and authentic in the future. The news service is adjourned for the time being. Stay with us!”
Péter Magyar, who promised during the election campaign to suspend state news broadcasts until balanced news communication is ensured, wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday that “propaganda broadcasts ended today on the surfaces of public media. They lied by night, in the daytime and on every wavelength. This is now over.”
Former prime minister Viktor Orbán reacted by saying “this is another step taken by the Tisza Party in its arbitrary rule. If you are interested in truth, go to HírTV”.
