Nationwide fire ban imposed due to heatwave

The government will introduce a nationwide ban on outdoor fire from June 25 due to prolonged dry weather and the heightened wildfire risk caused by the current heatwave, according to an announcement by the food safety office Nébih.

The measure was adopted with the agreement of the Disaster Management Authority.

Under the restrictions, lighting fires will be prohibited in forests, wooded areas and on rural properties located within 200 metres of such areas.

The ban also applies to designated outdoor fire pits.

The authorities noted that the use of gas-powered equipment and enclosed cooking or heating devices does not fall under the prohibition.

Residents may therefore continue to use a bogrács or barbecue grill in private urban gardens, although Nébih recommends opting for gas or electric alternatives where possible.
