Serious water restrictions in Hajdú-Bihar village

Water use restrictions have been introduced in a village in eastern Hungary after prolonged heat drove consumption to levels that nearly exhausted the local supply reservoir, according to RTL.

Residents in the roughly 2,000-resident village of Nagyrábé reported severely reduced water pressure during the day, with some households unable to cook or wash.

The measures were ordered by experts from the Debrecen water utility after the reservoir reached critically low levels.

Residents have been urged to minimise water use, including restrictions on garden irrigation and filling swimming pools.

The Water Utilities Association warned that continued heatwaves could trigger similar shortages in dozens of other municipalities during the summer period.
