Movie filming closes section of Metro

Budapest’s M2 metro line will not be running between Deák Ferenc tér and Örs vezér tere on Saturday and Sunday, after parts of the tunnel have been made available to the producers of a major American action movie.

The closure is expected to affect around 100,000 passengers a day.

Filming will take place in the metro tunnel near the Stadionok metro station for a production reportedly starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone.

Endre Bíró, head of the NGO Metro Association, described the complete two-day closure of the busiest section of the M2 as disproportionate, as he argued that the production could have been accommodated elsewhere on the network.
