FX reserves reach historic high

Hungary’s international reserves stood at a new record high of €61.1 billion at the end of May, up from €60.6 billion in the previous month and €15 billion one year earlier, the MNB announced.

The monthly increase was primarily driven by the expansion of foreign-currency claims, which rose from €41.5 billion to €42.2 billion, while other components of the reserve stock remained broadly unchanged.

The central bank’s foreign-currency reserves could rise further with the inflow of EU funds later this year, Portfolio adds.
