Philadelphia-Budapest link revived

American Airlines has resumed direct flights between Philadelphia and Budapest after a six-year break, operating a seasonal Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner service until October 5.
The service is the first scheduled direct air connection between Hungary and the US since 2020.
Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy said the expansion of Budapest’s international airport was essential, due to capacity constraints and the double-digit growth in inbound tourism.
He said the state, as the majority owner of Budapest Airport, is committed to improving access to the facility, as Budapest is the largest European air hub without a direct rail link to the city centre.
Budapest Airport CEO Francois Berisot called the relaunched route a milestone and said another transatlantic service could be announced soon.
