Magyar mocks TV2 news show after cancellation

Péter Magyar reacted sarcastically to reports that TV2’s flagship news programme “Tények” (“Facts”) will be cancelled, posting a farewell message aimed at what he called “the most despicable show the Hungarian media has ever seen” and “the uncrowned champions of Fidesz self-sabotage.”

His comments followed confirmation to 444 by TV2 chairman and CEO Miklós Vaszily that the news programme would end.

The programme, HVG writes, broadcast “the most serious government propaganda and fake news to an audience susceptible to intimidation and conspiracy theories” and on several occasions their hosts openly urged everyone to vote for Viktor Orbán and Fidesz.

Magyar recalled one of the show’s most widely mocked moments from 2024, when they aired a report alleging that he had adjusted his groin area in the European Parliament.

The smear campaign turned into a massive fiasco; the report was removed, re-edited, uploaded, and then deleted again.
