Magyar accuses Fidesz of last-minute overspending

Péter Magyar claimed in a Facebook post that the outgoing Orbán government is attempting to “drain state coffers” in its final week by taking on new financial commitments and removing spending controls.
He said a government resolution seen by him allows for large-scale new obligations beyond already contracted payments. This, in effect, removes safeguards on public spending, he declared.
Magyar has warned that the budget deficit could rise to 6.8% of GDP this year, well above the original 3.9% target and a later revised goal of 5%.
Magyar promised that a future Tisza government would immediately restore fiscal discipline and review all state contracts and expenditures.
He also urged ministries to avoid taking on new obligations until the new government is formed, limiting activity to essential payments only, adding that further action could carry consequences beyond political accountability.
