BUX advances 10% in April



The stock exchange’s benchmark BUX index rose by 10.2% last month as daily turnover reached Ft 40.7 billion, the highest level since 2007, the BSE announced on Monday.

OTP generated Ft 588 billion of the total monthly turnover of Ft 814 billion, while the four blue-chip stocks together accounted for roughly 95% of trading activity.

Market sentiment was supported by increased activity after the election, as daily turnover reached Ft 126 billion on April 13. Two days later, the BUX hit an intra-day record of 139,499 points.

Magyar Telekom was the best-performing blue-chip stock in April, with an 18.9% monthly gain (45.5% year-on-year).

The respective figures were 17.4% and 58.3% for OTP, 4.6% and 37.2% for MOL, and 10.4% and 21.0% for Richter.

Among investment service providers, Wood & Co. retained its leading position, handling turnover of Ft 501.6 billion, followed by Concorde and Erste.

The composition of the BUX basket was expanded at the start of April with the inclusion of MBH Bank, PannErgy and Shopper Park Plus, bringing the number of shares within the basket to 18.

The index remained heavily weighted toward OTP Bank (42.55%), MOL (21.40%) and Richter (18.24%).

The BSE reported an 81.6% gain in its share price last month.
