Losing MPs to get Ft 1.4bn in severance pay


Th government will pay Ft 1.4 billion in severance pay to the 144 of Hungary’s 199 MPs who will not be returning to Parliament, HVG reports.
The MPs will be paid three months of severance pay based on their salaries for February, March and April.
The basic salary for MPs is Ft 2.2 million, but those who are members or leaders of parliamentary committees, caucus leaders, deputy caucus leaders or hold other parliamentary posts are paid much more.
Those who have no other posts will receive Ft 6.4 million.
Departing deputy caucus leaders, parliamentary notaries, and committee chairman – who number 33 according to the current standing – will receive a gross Ft 10.8 million in severance pay.
The highest sum, Ft 12.7 million will be paid to the caucus leaders, sergeant-at-arms Márta Mátrai and the two outgoing deputy speakers Sándor Fazekas and Lajos Oláh.
Those leaving will have to return to the Office of Parliament their diplomatic passports, their fuel cards and smartphones and laptops, will have to move out of the flats and offices rented by the Office, and their assistants will not be paid any salary.
