Madách tér renewal expands pedestrian zone

Budapest’s Seventh District has begun a full renovation of Madách tér, as part of a renewed push to expand pedestrian areas.
Following a decision by the Budapest city council, the section previously used for parking has been closed to traffic.
Mayor of the district Péter Niedermüller said the site has already been handed over to the contractor, with works scheduled to be completed in two phases within 120 days.
Plans include resurfacing roads and pavements, levelling public spaces and redesigning the junction of Madách Imre út and Rumbach Sebestyén utca to improve accessibility.
The project will also add 15 trees and nearly 160m2 of new green space.
