Magyar refuses protective clothing

Tisza Party prime ministerial candidate Péter Magyar declared on Monday that he will not wear a bullet-proof vest or other defensive attire after an apparent attempt to assault him was thwarted.
“Yesterday when I arrived in Nagykanizsa, when I got out of the car, four or five men attacked me”, he said on Facebook. “One of them wanted to hit me from behind, which my colleagues warded off.”
The act was plainly organised, he added.
He was apparently referring to an event on Sunday when people threatened others with knives at a Tisza Party forum.
Magyar said other reports about provocations in other constituencies indicate that Viktor Orbán and his staff clearly aim to see the election campaign boil down to a scandal.
“It is also the goal of these attacks to provoke a response from the peaceful and optimistic community of the Tisza. Let us laugh in the face of those in power”, he wrote.
Many people have advised him to wear a bulletproof vest or seek police protection, but he will not do so, as “I will remain among ordinary people”, Magyar said.
