Govt pays Ft 6bn to victims of grain firm collapse

Agriculture Minister István Nagy announced on social media on Saturday that all affected farmers classified as SMEs have received their due payments following the collapse of grain trader Bászna Gabona.
He said the Chamber of Agriculture approved 581 claims, to a total of Ft 6.5 billion, and almost the entire amount has already been transferred.
The compensation process was completed in just six weeks.
The minister added that next week he will approach the government to resolve outstanding wages owed to the company’s former employees.
A court ordered the arrest of the company’s CEO on February 11, on suspicion of embezzling nearly Ft 10 billion.
The firm reportedly owes money to five banks.
