New home builds at nine-year low

A total of 12,062 new homes were completed in Hungary last year, 9.3% fewer than in 2024, and the lowest number since 2016, Telex writes, citing Ingatlan.com.

Both Budapest and county seat cities saw a decrease in new builds, down 14% and 26%, respectively.

Central Statistics Office data showed that the number of construction permits issued last year rose by 37%, indicating heightened homebuilding activity.

The number of new homes coming to the market in the coming years could rise significantly, Telex adds. By mid-February, nearly 12,000 new homes and apartments were listed for sale, a 23% annual increase.

In Budapest, the supply grew by 54%, while county seat cities saw a 7.5% increase.
