Auchan launches major expansion drive

Retail chain Auchan is planning to open smaller shops across the country from 2027 as part of its seven-year strategy to triple sales by 2032, the company announced on Thursday.

As part of the expansion, the retailer plans to open convenience stores 70-150m2 in size from 2027 in several phases, financed mainly from its own resources and through a franchise model, and to renovate all 19 of its hypermarkets.

Auchan also operates two superstores, three supermarkets, one automated Auchan GO unit and 19 filling stations.

The company has expanded its online operations with refrigerated CoolBox parcel lockers at three downtown locations, which operate around the clock.

Preliminary data show that Auchan Hungary’s turnover rose to Ft 542 billion in 2025.

The Indotek Group, owned by billionaire businessman Dániel Jellinek, acquired a 47% stake in Auchan Hungary and its petrol stations in 2024, and became the sole owner of the Auchan Korzó retail parks.
