Survey: corruption has not been curbed


Most Fidesz voters believe the government has not curbed corruption in the past 15 years, according to a survey conducted by 21 Kutatóközpont for the website aHang.
A total of 63% of respondents agreed that corruption in Hungary today is a systemic problem.
Most said the accumulation of wealth by businessmen close to the government is more significant and more widespread than during the tenure of other governments or in other EU countries.
According to the data, most of society feels that corruption has grown in Hungary in the past 15 years – a view held by 63% of respondents – while only 7% believe that corruption has fallen.
Perceptions of corruption by Fidesz voters are more divided. Some 23% said corruption has risen, 36% said it has not changed and 21% said it has fallen. Some 21% of Fidesz voters believe that the government has reduced corruption while nearly 60% said it has not changed or risen.
