GVH fines near Ft 4bn in 2025

The competition office GVH levied fines exceeding Ft 3.7 billion on 29 companies in 2025, president Csaba Rigó reported.

Nearly half of the closed cases concerned unfair commercial practices, which accounted for Ft 944.2 million in fines, or 25% of the total.

The authority uncovered several major collusion cases, including a garbage truck cartel, where six companies were collectively fined more than Ft 1.3 billion.

Thanks to the authority’s interventions, companies provided roughly Ft 800 million in consumer compensation and direct refunds.

The GVH launched new proceedings against major online accommodation booking platforms Booking.com and Airbnb in August.

The agency also subjected Wish, a leading global online marketplace, to a follow-up investigation.

Meanwhile, About You is reimbursing more than Ft 1 billion to Hungarian customers as a result of GVH proceedings, with Temu’s case expected to conclude in 2026.
