RTL quashes Hadházy sell-out rumour

The head of the state’s Digital Hungary Agency has ordered a Ft 54 billion capital increase at the state-owned firm Pro-M, and instructed it to acquire full ownership of 4iG Broadcasting Infrastructure using the newly injected funds, according to independent MP Ákos Hadházy.
He said he suspects that the money will be used to buy the Hungarian operator of television channel RTL.
The opposition politician recalled that the government bought Antenna Hungaria from its French owners for Ft 55 billion in 2014, then later transferred the entire company to Fidesz-friendly 4iG without compensation, and is now effectively buying back part of Antenna for roughly Ft 70 billion.
Hadházy claimed – citing several sources within 4iG – that 4iG may need the funds to purchase RTL, though he provided no evidence for the allegation.
RTL Group spokeswoman Irina Mettner-Isfort strongly denied in her response to website 24 that the media company is for sale.
"We are fully aware of our role and unique responsibility in the field of media pluralism and diversity of opinion in Hungary. That is why we have been repeating a clear message for years: we will remain in Hungary and continue to develop our business," she added.
