Russian discount chain Mere arrives in Hungary

After numerous premature reports and rumours, Russian “hard” discount chain Mere opened its first outlet in Hungary yesterday, under the name Basket Plusz Discount Store in Budapest’s18th District, far from the city centre.
Early shoppers were already queuing before the 9 a.m. opening, according to Blikk.
The store offers a mix of small-scale producers’ goods and EU products at very low prices.
Its layout is simple and warehouse-like, with stock and pricing subject to rapid change due to a pallet-based system.
The owner is reportedly a Serbian company, and initial supplies may be limited.
