Long awaited superhospital completed

A new seven-floor diagnostics and therapy centre of the Városmajor Coronary Therapy Clinic of Semmelweis University was dedicated on Monday.

The Ft 13.5 billion investment increased the area of the clinic by 50%. Rector Béla Merkely says the institution could become the biggest heart transplant centre in Europe.

The project elevates not only healthcare services but also research and education to a new level.

Government commissioner for artificial intelligence László Palkovics told the gathering that AI plays an increasingly large role in medicine and several AI solutions are utilised even now.

The rector intoned that following ten years of enduring work, the clinic’s biggest development to date can now be celebrated.

The new building is connected to the main building at Városmajor utca 68 by a bridge, which is of pivotal importance for looking after patients.

The intensive wards, the surgery and intervention theatres can be reached in a closed space without bridging a difference in level.

Merkely said this lays the foundation for the clinic to work as a genuine European super centre.
