African swine fever detected near Croatian border

The food safety authority Nébih has confirmed a case of African swine fever in Baranya county.

The infection was found in a wild boar shot near the village of Old, a few hundred metres from the Croatian border, in an area previously considered disease-free.

The animal was hunted down in a zone already deemed high-risk due to earlier Croatian outbreaks.

The food authority reclassified 15 local game management units as “infected areas” and extended the area of high-risk zones across Baranya, Bács-Kiskun and Tolna counties.
