Kúria upholds district’s Airbnb ban

The Kúria, Hungary’s supreme court, has ruled that the ban on short-term rentals adopted by Budapest’s Sixth District is lawful and does not infringe on the constitutional right to free enterprise.
Mayor Tamás Soproni announced the decision on his Facebook page, emphasising that the ruling confirms the legality of the district’s Airbnb ordinance, which is set to take effect on January 1, 2026.
The court found that the measure’s interference with property and business rights is proportionate, serving the legitimate aim of protecting residents’ quality of life and ensuring peace in the neighbourhood.
