Famed poet’s manuscript sells for record price

The manuscript of an Endre Ady poem sold for a new record price of more than Ft 2.5 million at an online auction of manuscripts and autographed books arranged by the website Antikvárium.hu which ended Sunday evening.
The poem, Az őszi lárma (“The Autumn Noise”), dating back to 1907, is a well-known work by the poet.
It was published in the volume Vér és arany (“Blood and Gold”) considered to be the poet’s best volume.
In other highlights of the auction, Lajos Kossuth’s letter of rejection sold for Ft 1.3 million, and poet János Batsányi’s 1827 volume of poems sold for Ft 1.2 million.
Another buyer bid Ft 400,000 for a manuscript of novelist Mór Jókai; others paid more than Ft 100,000 for signatures by football players Zinedine Zidane and Ferenc Puskás, and naturalist David Attenborough.
