Trump-Putin meeting set for Budapest

Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin will meet in Budapest to discuss peace in the Russia-Ukraine war, the US president announced on his social media platform on Thursday night after a phone call with the Russian president.

No date has been set, but Trump later told reporters that the meeting will take place within the next two weeks.

He added that they discussed at length the trade opportunities between Russia and the US that could be exploited once the war in Ukraine is over.

At the end of their two-hour conversation, the two leaders agreed that their highest-level advisors would meet next week. The US delegation will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and the members of the delegation will be named soon. The location for this meeting has not yet been determined.

This will be followed by the Trump-Putin meeting in Budapest, where, in Trump’s words, "we will see if we can end this inglorious war between Russia and Ukraine."

Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet in Washington today, where they will discuss everything that Trump and Putin had just discussed, Trump said.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Facebook that this meeting is "another great chance for peace!" adding in an English-language post on the X social media platform that “The planned meeting between the American and Russian presidents is great news for the peace-loving people of the world. We are ready!”
