Interior Ministry’s former HQ for sale

State asset manager MNV has announced the auction of the former Interior Ministry headquarters partly located on Széchenyi tér by the Danube in central Pest.
The three-building property, forming a single unit, carries a starting price of Ft 50.8 billion, with bidders required to place a Ft 12.7 billion deposit.
The complex has ten storeys and a floor area exceeding 41,000 square meters, making it one of the largest contiguous properties in downtown Budapest.
While currently configured as offices, the MNV noted that its location and design also make it suitable for accommodation or “special purposes”, raising expectations that it could be converted into a hotel.
The sale was anticipated after the government removed the property from the list of protected state assets in late 2024, citing the lack of a public use for the building.
The Interior Ministry relocated to Buda Castle earlier this year.
Speculation surrounds the future buyer, according to website G7, as Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s son-in-law, István Tiborcz, already owns several nearby hotels.
However, Tiborcz recently told Portfolio that his BDPST Group would not participate in future auctions of state properties in the downtown area.
