US fast food chains eye Hungarian market

Representatives of 11 well-known US brands will visit Budapest on September 16 to present their expansion plans and meet potential Hungarian partners, the US embassy said in a statement.

The business delegation is on a European tour that will also include Vienna and Prague.

Among the companies represented are the fast-food chain Wendy’s, which exited the Hungarian market in 2002, and Olive Garden, a restaurant chain specialising in Italian cuisine.

Four pizza chains (Pizza Inn, Blaze Pizza, Russo’s New York Pizzeria and Vocelli Pizza) will also be present. In addition, Velvet Taco, offering Mexican dishes, and Barberitos, known for its grilled meals, burritos and tacos, will join the group.

Other participants include United Franchise Group, a franchise consultancy, Reuse Systems, a provider of hygiene services for the hotel industry, and Mobile Outfitters, a retailer of mobile phone accessories.

The Budapest event is primarily aimed at entrepreneurs and private investors with relevant sector experience who are interested in representing American brands in Hungary.

The announcement comes shortly after fast-food chain Popeyes confirmed its entry into the Hungarian market, with its first Budapest restaurant to open soon.
