No EV battery projects planned

There are no negotiations currently under way on the establishment of new EV battery manufacturing plants in Hungary, Foreign Affairs and Trade state secretary Levente Magyar said in a written response to a parliamentary question from an opposition MP.
The question arises after South Korean company Enchem withdrew plans to build a solvent recycling facility in Körösladány, Békés county.
According to HVG, the project was abandoned due to strong local opposition and an insufficient electricity supply.
The town’s mayor announced that the local council will not support EV battery-related investments in the town in the future, citing environmental and safety concerns.
Magyar underlined that Hungary remains a key player in the global automotive industry’s technological transformation and has secured international investments amidst tough competition, ensuring the livelihood of tens of thousands of families.
