Enchem drops Körösladány project

Enchem, a South Korean firm with a base in Komárom, has abandoned plans to build a battery solvent recycling plant in Körösladány, a small town in Békés county, HVG reports.
The project, intended to reuse hazardous aqueous waste known as NMP, was to be located next to the former Henkel detergent factory, which closed last year.
Local residents, who said they had not been informed in advance, opposed the scheme, citing fears of another hazardous facility in the town.
A referendum was scheduled for June 29 but became moot after Enchem withdrew from the project shortly before the vote.
The local council later banned EV battery-related investments and amended zoning rules to block similar projects.
The town clerk added that Körösladány’s existing infrastructure would not have been able to meet the plant’s electricity demands.
