American Airlines plans Budapest–Philadelphia link

American Airlines will launch a new direct daily service between Budapest and Philadelphia starting on May 21, 2026, Economy Minister Márton Nagy announced on Thursday.
The seasonal route will run until October and will be operated with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, offering business, premium economy, and economy classes, with a total capacity of 234 passengers.
Flights will depart Budapest at 11:25 a.m. local time and arrive in Philadelphia at 3:00 p.m. Return flights will leave the US city at 6:50 p.m., landing in Budapest at 9:25 a.m. on the following day.
Since the collapse of Hungary’s national carrier Malév in 2012, direct transatlantic flights from Budapest have operated only intermittently.
The government has worked to re-establish long-haul routes since taking over Budapest Airport last year.
